Q: How often do you have groups?
A:  When we have enough interest to fill a group.

Q: Where do you have groups?
A: We hold our groups both on the east side and west side of town(Portland, Oregon). Sometimes they are held at churches and other times in one of our centers.  Please call us to see where and when our next groups will be forming.

Q: How big are the groups?
A: The groups have a leader, a co-leader and up to 6 participants.

Q: How long does the group last?
A:  A typical group schedule (we call a weekend +8) is as follows:

One pre-group meeting between the potential group member and the leaders that lasts for about one hour. This takes place one to two weeks before group begins.

  The group meets:

     Friday evening: 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
     Saturday: 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

Then we meet once a week during the week (always the same day of the week) from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm for 7 weeks.

The 8th week is an exit interview that lasts about 30 minutes. Individual appointments are made.

Q: Are the groups private?
A:  Yes.  We do our best to maintain privacy and confidentiality. We ask for group members to be committed to completing our groups. No one is allowed to “observe” our groups or to drop in.

Q: My best friend and I want to join a group together, can we?
A:  In most cases the answer is no; same with family members, no. Our groups can be intense and we want you to be entirely comfortable, open and honest with things or feelings you might need to express.  Therefore we believe that in order for you to achieve that, it is best not to be in a group with friends or relatives.  Please call us to discuss further if you still have questions or concerns.

Q: Can I still join a group if I don't know anything about the Bible or God?
A: Yes, you are welcome to come wherever you are in your relationship (or lack thereof) with God! However, keep in mind, this group is very much a Christian based Bible study. We will and do study God's word, pray and ask Him to be the head of our group. We believe God is the author of life; we are made in His image. We also believe He forgives us when we commit our lives to Him and repent; even for our abortions.

Q: I had my abortion so many years ago. Why am I just starting to struggle now?
A:  Well, it isn’t uncommon to start to struggle years later.  Sometimes we put up wall of protection or denial so that we can carry on with life.  It might have been too painful to deal with all those years ago. The good news is that we have hope and help for you! Give us a call so we can talk about it with you.

Q:   I want to volunteer at PRC. Why do I need to attend HEART if I have had an abortion(s)?
A: HEART is part of Pregnancy Resource Centers of Greater Portland. It is the reconciliation ministry we offer to our clients who are having a hard time dealing with past abortions.  If you are post abortive and wish to be a peer counselor, we want you to be well informed for our clients and we believe that the Lord will use your experience in HEART to minister to the post-abortive clients at PRC. We also desire for healing for you. Trust that God will use this part of your life to show you His love and forgiveness, His comfort. Then you can pass that knowledge on to others.

Q: I have had an abortion, want to be a peer counselor, and have already been through healing, do I still need to go through HEART?
A: Yes, in most cases. Again, because this is PRC of Portland’s reconciliation ministry, we want you to know what you are recommending and have the knowledge and belief that it is a good, helpful recommendation. As a post-abortive peer counselor having gone through HEART, you have a unique perspective to offer to PRC’s clients. We believe that our healing journey is just that, a journey.  God will use different aspects of things we have experienced at different times in our lives.  This is a great time to ask God to show you any other areas of your abortion experience that you can grow from and learn from.
